Kale Chips
Have you ever tried kale chips? Some of you may be thinking, “Why would I do that?” or “You can’t fool me into thinking they are potato chips.” They are definitely not potato chips. They are even better! I may be biased though because I don’t care for potato chips. Kale chips are very flavorful, and if that is not convincing enough, think about how nutritious they are as compared to other kinds of chips. What a great way to treat yourself.
This recipe is a very simple recipe. As always, you can get more creative with the seasoning. You can add cayenne pepper, garlic powder, cumin, whatever flavors you want. I used a bag of already chopped kale. I would recommend you buy whole kale leaves and tear them up yourself so your pieces aren’t as small as mine. Also take into consideration that some pieces may break during the massaging process. Massaging the kale helps soften them up and removes some of the bitterness.
Also make sure they are completely dry before you even start making them, you don’t want your kale chips to be soggy. You can use a salad spinner or pat them dry with a paper towel. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature. They do lose their crispiness over time though. Unlike other kinds of chips, they have a very short life span. Eat them within two to three days. But don’t worry, you won’t have a hard time doing that.
Kale Chips
This recipe yields about 2 cups.
- 4 cups of kale
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Method
Preheat your oven to 325ΒΊF. Spray a large baking sheet and set it aside.
Remove the stalks from the kale and cut them into medium pieces. Wash the kale pieces and dry them thoroughly. Put the kale pieces in a large bowl and drizzle on the olive oil. Gently massage the kale for about two minutes. All the pieces should be coated in oil. Add the salt and black pepper and rub them in until the kale pieces are coated.
Spread the kale pieces out on the baking sheet. Bake for about 10 to 15 minutes, rotating the pan in between to make sure all the kale pieces are crispy. Let the kale chips cool before eating.
